A PICTURE IN THE MAKING STARRING NORA AUNOR AND MICHAEL JACKSON! What d'you guys think?
Written by TITO NARDS
A local movie for the idol of the "now" generation that is Michael Jackson? [What a] big deal! And the choice for his leading lady narrowed down to Nora Aunor. Will it push through or will it only be [press] releases?
Skeptics can be proven wrong but when the news first broke about how the internationally renowned singing group that is the JACKSON FIVE led by that young ambassador of songs, Michael Jackson, would be making a film here [in the Philippines]; we got nothing but shrugs in response. According to someone in the know within our showbiz circles, this remains unclear. They added: "Maybe it can be greenlit when JACKSON FIVE is OBSOLETE. Just imagine, Hollywood has made a lot of similar offers, and they simply NIXED it! What more here?"
Related to this news is Michael pairing with either of local movielandia's SUPERLASSES, either Nora Aunor or Vilma Santos. But then, suddenly it's [confirmed to be] NORA AUNOR. As soon as we heard about this pairing being all but ready to go, with Nora and Michael being ready for their pictorial [together] as well, we rushed to the Manila Hilton. The Jackson Five were all present and accounted for, while Guy* is her usual self during the pictorials—WITTY!
The pictorial session was rushed. The Jacksons had an important appointment that afternoon... but [it was] long enough for us to corner Vicor*'s boss, Vic del Rosario, for an abbreviated tit-a-tat.
[Now that] it's been confirmed, what will the title be?
"As of now, there isn't one yet! But, it's CERTAIN!" he quickly assured us.
Suddenly the session was transferred to the Folk Arts Theatre. At this instance, we noticed how this pictorial session is an EXCLUSIVE SCOOP for us. There were no other photographers. How lucky, we thought so!
In the sprawling grounds of the Folk Arts Theatre, Nora and Michael were posing all over. In other shots, Randy Jackson, the youngest of the singing group and favorite [brother] of Michael, shared the pictorials with Nova Villa.
I then saw Papa Jackson. Yes, he is the group's caretaker on their tours. After the usual introduction, I took him aside for a much needed interview. That is, more detailed facts of the movie to-be. And I found him very accommodating.
When do you expect to start with the movie?
"Hm-mmm, about a month or two from now on. You see, [we] have lots of commitments back in the USA... so that was can't make sure when to start."
Have you concluded negotiations with Vicor Music Corporation for this particular movie?
"We talked about it verbally, but as of now, nothing is definite."
But you'll be leaving tomorrow?
We did the interview the day before their departure.
"Well, negotiations may continue via radiograms and overseas call. Any means feasible.."
I know the movie has no title yet as of now., Will it be a musical, drama or what?
"I wouldn't want to comment on that, because we're studying three scripts now... and we really haven't gone over it because of the hectic schedules we have in this short stay of ours here!"
Just what prompted you to accept Vicor's offer to do a movie, don't you have offers for movies back in the United States? More so, in Hollywood?
"WOW, plenty... plenty! But always, they wanted us to do action pictures. Movies that usually touch on drugs, etc... and it just didn't suite our taste."
Papa Jackson also explained that more or less, the whole group would participate in the film as well. But aside from Michael, only Randy will be having a longer role in the film.
On the other hand, when I asked Michael if he has ever known or even heard of the name Nora Aunor, he smiled while nodding. Wow, is that so. But then, upon clarification, he meant that ever since he arrived here, he's been hearing her name left and right. "And I just love to do this picture, especially with your superstar," Michael said with a smile.
So then, everyone is now ready for local movielandia's pariting of Nora with the Jackson great, Michael. And we further gathered that this is a SOLO venture for Vicor Music Corporation and not a co-venture with NV Productions* as published before. To address all the questions related to the said movie, shall we say NOTHING YET IS DEFINITE?
Translation Notes:
- Guy is Nora Aunor's nickname
- Vicor is a Filipino record label
- NV Productions is Nora Aunor's production company
EXCERPTS RELATED TO MJ FROM SECOND ARTICLE:
- Nora Aunor said "Yes, Michael is indeed shy."
- It was "certain" that the Jackson Five will be back in Manila by April. Their Manila tour was previously held at two different venues: February 13-15 at the Folk Arts Theatre and February 17-19 at the Araneta Coliseum.
- Nora Aunor and her husband had actually just watched the Jackson Five's show at the Araneta Coliseum the night before the photoshoot.

English-translated excerpt related to The Jackson 5 and Michael Jackson
THE JACKSON 5 IN ACTION
The Jackson 5's Love Jive was a professional show, and they were warmly applauded after showcasing their beautiful harmony and extraordinary stage choreography. It's a unanimous opinion from everyone that this was the best concert to happen in the country. The Jackson 5's repertoire was balanced as they swung from one to the other with finesse that really was outstanding. They performed their popular hits like Back To Indiana, Body Language, Moving Violation, Ben, One Day In Your Life, Lala Means I Love You, Dancing Machine and I'll Be There.
The star of the show of course was Michael who delighted his inumerable fans when he sang Rockin' Robin, All I Do Is Think Of You and Happy.
HERE AND THERE...
At the exhibition games of the Jackson 5 versus Vicor stars, the Vicor muse was no one else by Marianna dela Riva, who happened to be a fan of Michael Jackson.
